It gives so much to think about. Make sure you include it in your motivational book because it is truly priceless.Clarissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11027134365260069910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1055932257464975902.post-52155766917644217562011-05-05T09:57:20.172-05:002011-05-05T09:57:20.172-05:00Those are more general categories of theory, rathe...Those are more general categories of theory, rather than theories in the concrete sense. Poststructuralism encompasses a vast array of theorists with differing, even contradictory viewpoints.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09371893596402673898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1055932257464975902.post-12964940513682942602011-05-04T21:58:27.296-05:002011-05-04T21:58:27.296-05:00SLA (sort of), but depending on what that makes yo...SLA (sort of), but depending on what that makes you think of exactly, what I actually do may be closer to education and/or anthropology. Current contenders are critical and poststructuralist theories, neither of which are really working at the moment.Shedding Khawatirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04643490050277557885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1055932257464975902.post-46676493612756216382011-05-04T16:19:32.863-05:002011-05-04T16:19:32.863-05:00What's your field, Shedding? I'd be glad to attempt a post on that, but there are some field-specific parameters that need to be considered.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09371893596402673898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1055932257464975902.post-65912056478909453692011-05-04T14:53:23.136-05:002011-05-04T14:53:23.136-05:00If you could do a "how to apply theory" ...If you could do a "how to apply theory" post that expands upon this idea and what Andrew said, that would be very useful. I am currently struggling with how to choose a theoretical framework for my dissertation, and the options I'm finding at the moment seem as though they will lead to the first problem you mention. I also find that your second problem is common in my subfield, soShedding Khawatirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04643490050277557885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1055932257464975902.post-5920891054389411802011-05-04T13:23:53.029-05:002011-05-04T13:23:53.029-05:00That's what I mean. I "close read" the theory, as it were. And I try to make sure that I am not just "using" the theory to read the primary material, but also using the primary material to read the theory.Andrew Shieldshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02804655739574694901noreply@blogger.com
