A Slip

My students kindly pointed out to me that a Judith Butler article I said was published 10 years ago, in 1993, was actually published 20 years ago. Somehow 93 does not seem twenty-years ago to me. I think of 73 as being about 30 years ago, too, though obviously I will admit that is is 40 years ago, if you really want to insist. I think I lost years of my life to depression and frustration. I am doing very well now, though, and I must have held it together a little bit, at least, to be where I am now.

Do you think is depression and frustration that makes time seem to go so fast? I have the same impression, 93 was yesterday, but then of course it was not. I have the impression I missed most of the 21st century, and I seem to think we are in about 2003 also.

In fact I think we are in April 2004, I have just ow realized, and I should look at the state of one of my mss. as it was then, I was very happy with it, then got kidnapped by local circumstances. Hm.

...I now know what causes double posting, I think: it is hitting the publish our comment button, and having the thing publish, and then hitting the back button in the browser. We´ll see.

i always thought it was more like where your landmarks lie. i graduated from college in 2000. 'the 80s' always seem like '20 years ago' to me.
