Another reader writes to say
thank you. He has a contract with a major publisher and owes both me and Thomas: "I discovered you in grad school back in '09 or '10, and really settled into a good writing life during my dissertation, in part, as a result of reading your blogs."
Thanks for posting this. Helping people "settle into a good writing life" while writing their dissertation is a very big part of my motivation for blogging. It's always great to hear about someone who was able to use my advice to do exactly that. Graduate students, in any case, figure prominently in my imagined/intended audience.
My research career is flourishing, and that's also thanks to Jonathan's blog and to Thomas's posts. My first two years on the tenure-track were filled with stress, anxiety, and desperate search for big blocks of time I thought I needed to write. And now I'm getting some really good research done, and there is no stress attached to the process.
