Lorca's brother wrote this:
“The House of Bernarda Alba, of these plays, is the one that has the most direct inspiration in reality. In this it is the exact opposite of Blood Wedding, in which everything is invented except the plot. In Bernarda, everything except the story is inspired by the reality.”
This is almost right. The characters of BA are real people that Lorca knew, but the events of the play are invented.
Bodas de sangre was inspired by newspaper reports of a runaway bride, but the play is not about this woman. What is more, the plot of Bodas is not the plot of the real life events. The only points of comparison is that there is a runaway bride and a murder. The relationships of the characters are different, and the escape happens before the wedding, not after, as in the play.
