Tertulia

We have a tertulia in my department. I've been twice, and both times I was accompanied by two or three colleagues. It was wonderful to hear what they had to say about what they are working on, and to be able to talk about what I am doing as well.

This is what we need. Every once in a while someone tries to start one and it is always quashed by their enemies, though. I wonder if I should list create functioning tertulia as a goal in the strategic plan -- I think yes.

There is certain dynamic. So far it's been all male, and the Brazilians come. The organizer skipped last time because he was not on his own email list and thought the notice had not gone out. It is important to meet off campus.

Off campus, that is a good idea and we should try it. And Spanish should spearhead, it tends to be the divisions in French that make ours die. And we should advertise to the general community as audience, and the English graduate students that do Lat Am. Hmmmm very interesting.
